Diary of a Submissive: A Modern True Tale of Sexual Awakening

Apparently, this year is the year to talk about sex.

I’m sure you’ve seen some books out there. In varying shades of grey. I crack myself up.

However, some people, mainly women, are super embarrassed to talk about things that make them happy in their sexual lives.

Wait…this is NOT going to be a post about how to get down to the nitty gritty with your spouse. I’d like to think that if you really wanted to know that, you would go to someone who is certified in that subject matter. I just know what Mr. Houseful and *I* like, so I go by those standards.

This post is going to be talking about a book that I just read as part of the Blog Her Book Club called: Diary of A Submissive:A Modern True Tale of Sexual Awakening by Sophie Morgan. It’s a real life account of one woman’s role as a submissive and WHY she enjoys it. Not surprisingly, it has been touted as the “real” 50 Shades of Grey for reasons that you’re sure to find out not even three pages in.

I can’t even lie, the thought of being purposely embarrassed through sexual encounters and possibly being aroused by it confuses me. Being called names, and use of physical “punishments” confounds me as well. Mostly because the women who SAY they enjoy living their lives as a submissive actually don’t present themselves that way in their non-sexual lives. Case in point, Ms. Morgan is a journalist who is obviously very intelligent and at the top of her game in everything. Why is it that she needs to abase herself when it comes to her sexual encounters?

I also think that my religious background totally conflicts with this way of thinking at first glance. Not that it’s wrong, but not loving on the surface. Sex should be something that two people who love each other engage in, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I’m sure you’ve heard the sentiments. I wonder, are we too held back in our sexual natures? Do we only present what we think will be validated by others? Has Morgan taken it too far by sharing what’s going on, and being proud of the role that she’s chosen?

Thoughts?
