The Sky is the Limit at Snowbird Ski Resort

The Sky is the Limit at Snowbird Ski Resort

Just last week, I was 8000 feet above sea level, presenting to the Ag Media Summit at the beautiful Snowbird Ski Resort in Salt Lake City, Utah. Snowbird is a is an unincorporated community in Little Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains near Salt Lake County, Utah, U.S.  The elevation is 7,760 ft (2,365 m); lowest chairlift; 8,100 feet (2,469 m); main base area. I even took the tram to the highest point which was 11,000 feet above sea level! I was there in the dead heat of summer, and the middle of the mountain never got above 80 degrees. Talk about heaven!

It was a glorious trip, and it really made me face some of the fears that I have as an entrepreneur AND wife. Imagine that. I’ve been doing quite a bit of travel without my husband this year. Okay, ALL of my travel has been without my husband this year, and that’s new for me. I really don’t like it, but it must be done if bills need to get paid. That’s an adult thing, right? Right. However, being in the mountains, without my cover – yes, I consider my husband my covering – I’m a good Christian like that, was a bit scary. I had to ride a tram up to the summit of the mountain, and well, let’s just say that I have a healthy fear of heights. Do you remember my ziplining story? Yeah. That. I had to put on a brave face, and get a couple of shots from the top of the summit, because holy smokes, it was beautiful!

Back to the Ag Media Sumit, I presented on making effective use of the blogosphere, and not creating an echo chamber. There is nothing worse than presenting information to people who already KNOW about your product. It just doesn’t really drive the sales that you want to, right? So why not partner with bloggers and PR/Marketing firms to get that word out? Right?

To be able to present to a room of communications professionals that I may be able to work with later was a dream come true!

I had a single room with a king bed, and it was perfect! It came set with a desk, full sized pull out couch, and double round table in case I wanted to eat in a day or two. There was also a safe and refrigerator along with a DVD player just in case you travel with them. Free wi-fi for guests was available in the rooms and throughout the resort as well.

Between the great sessions that I attended, and the awards ceremonies, there wasn’t a lot of time to explore the ski resort, but on the last day, I was able to take a hike along an “easy” trail and just marvel at the work of God. Mountains and valleys created by glaciers slowly working through to carve out space that I would later be standing on taking photos. I can ONLY imagine what it looks like when there is snow. Apparently, there was upwards of 700 inches of snow last year!

While I know that a resort like this is all about getting OUTSIDE and seeing what there is to see, the inside wasn’t too shabby either. It was like a labyrinth of goodies around every corner! There were sixteen restaurants that you could eat in – I chose El Chanate and the Atrium during my stay there. I loved both of them. I didn’t get a photo at El Chanate because I was working, but I had shrimp tacos, and they were DIVINE!

If you’re not into skiing, coming in the spring, summer and fall, may just be the ticket at Snowbird Ski Resort. There are a ton of outdoor options for you, including hiking, a mountain coaster, the Alpine Slide – which I loved watching whiz by me on my daily walks, and a walk climbing wall. That doesn’t end the amount of activities that you can do, but it sure does start a nice stay here! Of course, the rooftop pool is not to be missed, and I’m glad that on my last day here, I got to enjoy some time there.

Believe it or not, the only person in our family that actually skis is Nathaniel. Yep. The cellist is a skier of sorts. This time of the year is more my speed. You can find more information about Snowbird on their website. Until then – happy travels!

I'm so glad that you faced your fear! Part of me wants to zip line and the other part is like nope it's so not safe. Congrats on you speaking engagement. The best times are when you can marvel about Gods nature. That's how I felt on a canoe in Thailand .

What a beautiful place! I have a hard time traveling without the ENTIRE family, so that limits what I can take on sometimes. I'm speaking in Toronto in a couple days without them, and man... I am struggling. You're motivated me to try more solo travel for work. Imma try. This place is gorgeous.

This one was really hard for me too. I didn't know ANYONE at the conference, and that made me super nervous. I'm glad that people recognized MY face so that I could get over that initial hump, but it was SO relaxing after we were done!

That mountain view looks beautiful. I am like you, this is my time of year to visit a ski resort. I don't ski or like the cold so this would be perfect. I love that you braved the tram and I know you rocked your conference session.

The view is absolutely stunning. I would go tubing and then sit cute and sip hot tea. I'm glad you conquered your fear.
