Pinafore Dress and Dock Pants

Blog Love, Children, Family, Sewing, The Twizzlers, Tutorials

Remember on Saturday I posted a picture of the cute little partial outfits that I made for Lil Miss Twizzler, and Sir Twizzler?

Oh, you don’t. Well here’s another picture:

I wish that I could claim all creative license for these little cute clothes for the twizzlers, but alas I can not. The Pinafore Dress comes from Maggie at Smashed Peas and Carrots and I have been drooling over it since she posted it this year. Little Miss Twizzler looked so cute in it, and it is still a little large for her (we had the heat on HIGH during the party this weekend, so she could wear it without the shirt underneath – mostly because I was being picky about what could go underneath it.) Oh, you want another picture of her you say? I’m all for obliging her fans:

I happen to think that she looks perfect! And big sister is in the background – I’m sure you see her legs. We tried this on her also, and it’s a PERFECT top. So summer time will be fantastic for the little women in the Nicholes’ house.

Now, Sir Twizzler presents a little bit of a sewing issue for me. I keep wanting to make him things, but let’s face it, boys clothes are a bit cumbersome to make. They usually lack any type of dimension, and they come in bland colors. Well, it wasn’t until I went to Pinterest to look for pants tutorials for boys that I found this gem from Lier at IKat Bag

From her pattern, I tried to draft a smaller version for Sir Twizzler. In order to appreciate this, let me give you some of his dimensions. In one word, he’s small. He’s a long baby (by measurements of all of my children) but his frame is SMALL, SMALL, SMALL. She drafted a pattern for a 3T boy, so I had to get a little creative. This was my first time making pants, and I am not ashamed that I prayed right at my sewing machine that I would make something that would not look horrendous for him. I’m not entirely convinced that I can make pants yet, but I can pretend pretty well! LOL!

Here he is in them – we had to put a disposable diaper on him in order for it to fit, and the crotch is WAY longer than it should be, but I happen to think that HE looks perfect in it. With his dreamy eyes.

My children, may or may not dump goldfish crackers on the floor instead of keeping them in the cupcake holders that they were supposed to stay in. This photo is NOT documentation of goldfish on the floor. This is a Jedi mind trick.

It even has a back pocket – and it’s functioning! LOL! How’s that for cute?!

Anyway, I am not deterred, so I will be attempting pants for all of the children soon. I do want to make these again, because I love picking out contrasting fabrics. I also love dressing the twins in the same colors, but not the exact same patterns. I don’t get a chance to do it often enough, and I think that they may appreciate this a little more than being head to toe in the SAME color/pattern.

Whew! Now that I’m done with all of that explanation, I’m off to figure out what else I can sew. I think that it’s becoming my addiction. So, I would like to thank Lier and Maggie for being so open with their sewing skills and their willingness to share with the blogosphere.

This is beautiful. I love dressing siblings alike. You make me want to pull out my sewing machine.
