This weekend, THIS happened. I started and completely my first quilt top with Kate Spain’s Good Fortune line. I’m kind of proud of myself. Kind of. This was definitely a lesson in patience and geometry. Go figure. My higher education is coming back to haunt me. I’m sure all of my math teachers are chuckling in glee.
Anyway, this particular quilt consists of a Kate Spain Layer Cake in the Good Fortune line. Since this was my first time forging into the world of piecing a quilt top of any size, I was happy to work with pre-cut fabric. The layer cake consisted of 42 10″ squares that I sliced and diced to my liking. No, just kidding! I used a tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Company’s You Tube site. The problem (or maybe not) with mine was that my second cut was identical to the first one, not half of the square the second time around. No worries though, because I like the way that it looks.
Here’s the top before I sewed the pieces together
After some help from Erin at Dog Under My Desk with switching around some pieces (thank goodness for Twitter chats and TalkNT) I finally settled on a top that I liked enough to commit.
So, without further ado, here’s the finished quilt top: Please be kind! I know that by putting this up on my blog I open myself to all types of criticism, but just know that you get back what you put out. 🙂
This is a portion of my sewing space. Yes, you see mess on my desk – it’s how I work. It honestly works for me. Hush.
Okay! That’s it for a weekly Houseful of Stitches update (I think) hopefully, I will be linking to Holiday sales items (soon) in my Etsy shop. I can’t believe it’s almost time for Holiday cheer and what not.
That’s it for now. Have a great Monday!
