I’m pretty sure, it’s no longer a secret that I really like the patterns from Dog Under My Desk. I mean, I’ve made her Essential Wristlet, Quick Zip Lunch Bag, Zip and Go, and even her Daytripper (one of my favorite bags ever!) So, when Erin decided that she was going to do a Blog Hop featuring all of her patterns, I was excited to participate. My pattern was her Notepad Organizers. Who knew that a random encounter on Twitter would turn into a fast friendship. I even met her last month to participate in a Sew-a-thon for a women’s shelter in the western suburbs.
Let me tell you, the level of detail that Erin puts into her patterns is second to none. She takes a TON of photos, and creates several prototypes before sending them out to pattern testers for a final run through. Her perfectionism is refreshing to say the least! You’ll be able to follow the instructions easily, and she’s very open with giving other alternatives and using a language point easily understood. And seriously, she takes a TON of photos. You won’t be guessing what steps are missing.
For my notepad organizers, I chose a zebra print upholstery fabric with a hot pink lining, since I was already on a roll with that combo. I also snagged black elastic because I couldn’t find zebra print, or hot pink elastic anywhere. I think the next time I make these, oh yes, there will be a next time, I’ll take her suggestion and get some hair elastic bands and cut those to match. These would be great to put into goodie bags for a birthday party full of 5 year olds who just HAVE to have something to write on at all times.
The size you see here is the medium notepad organizer. I have a small one cut out, but the littles aren’t letting me be great this week, so I’ll have photos of that later.
I think that I was probably slightly punch drunk after finishing this. It was somewhere after three in the morning, and this was the fourth project that had come off of my sewing machine. I’m a sewing beast. Can’t forget my discount card for JoAnn’s! This makes a perfect go to notepad for ideas that I may have or to stick scraps of fabric to match up on my days venturing into the store. It closes up nicely as well. No puckering, or pulling, and that’s what I love. A pattern that perfectly comes together. I didn’t expect anything less though from Erin.

my last sewing project was new curtain panels for my sewing room. (I used the old panels to make slip covers for my sewing chairs.) I love Erin’s patterns and construction suggestions. I made her Sammy Bag for a friend and have the Daytripper pattern cut out in 2 sizes – ready to go. I only have to make up my mind about which size and what fabrics – that’s all! How awesome! I agree Erin has the best instructions and TONS of photos! I’ve learned all I know about seeing from blogs and tutorials and PDF patterns with photos and goooooooolly, I bought a “regular” pattern with just word instructions znd I could NOT do it. Would love to win anything from Erin!

I have been going through a slump with sewing lately. I am too busy doing school with the children during the day and only seem to get mending projects finished at night.
My current project is patchwork curtains for my bedroom using Bali light and dark batiks. BUT I have loads of WIPs, including Erin’s new backpack pattern. I, too, LOVE her stuff!
My last project was a make-up bag for a friend. Before that, I finished 8 purses and 10 wristlets in 2 days (stockpiling for a craft show).
I just finished some Star Trek pillowcases for my brother’s birthday. Love the notepad cover–zebra and hot pink is my favorite color combination!
My last project was shortening curtains that came with our new (to us) house. All curtains were 84 inches long, regardless of the widow height.
My last sewing project was a wallet. I just asked Erin if she would consider making a wallet pattern since the ones that I followed were not that great. I would love to make a notebook organizer!

My last project was making backpacks for my daughter and her friends who had just graduated high school.
I’ve made her wristlets and can say that everything you pointed out about her patterns is true. The last project to come off my machine was a baby quilt for ou guild’s community quilts project.
The Last thing I sewed were reusable napkins for my kiddoes to take in their lunch boxes..

My last sewing project was making a pattern from a thrift store skirt that fit me perfectly. That was in the summer. Haven’t had time since then to sew 🙁

Oops! Forgot the last sewing project. I hemmed three pair of pants for my beautiful, but short daughter-in-law. Before that I made some summer t shirts for me. Have a bag cut and waiting to find just the right lining.

I recently finished a blue and white log cabin quilt that I had pieced years ago. I am so happy with the finished quilt that I wonder why it was a UFO for so long.

I just made some lined drawstring bags. They will be used to house gifts.
Erin’s hipster bag was the first sewing pattern I ever bought, and I learned a ton from it. I have several of her other patterns, but my clear favorite is the Daytripper.
I’m currently making another hipster bag for a friend. I think a notepad organizer will go really well with it.
