Weddings, Breakdowns, Texas and Vlogging or: How I Coped with A Car Full of Nicholes

Me, happy for reasons you will understand after reading.

Well HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO HoNeys! For those of you who follow the blog closely, you will notice that it’s been almost three weeks since my posting last, and now you’re getting a handful of posts from me. First of all, how lucky am I that you are still reading? VERY! However, my modem went out and it’s just too much work to transport three little ones to Panera or the local library daily to do posting, so we just dealt with the hand that I was given. It wasn’t too bad though, however, I have missed you all like crazy! I even had a chance to make homemade vanilla extract. You can read about that right below this post.

Anyhow, I had a chance to witness another one of my buddies get married to the love of her life and it was beautiful. In true Nicholes fashion we decided to make a nice long trip of it and drove. To. TEXAS. If you really haven’t been following me (and shame on you if you haven’t) I will take the time to let you know that we live in Chicago. The wedding was in a suburb of Houston. We thought no problem, however, the road trip gods decided to throw a mega wrench in our plans.

We were SUPPOSED to leave at midnight Friday morning to go and swoop up our friend Roshini – the personality behind Glamazini.com and continue our trek to Memphis, TN. We were SUPPOSED to then rest for a couple of hours to then get back on the road to head to Houston where we were SUPPOSED to check in on Saturday afternoon. No bueno. Here’s how the story really went.

Left Chicago Friday afternoon after finding out that rental car companies suck. We weren’t even giving a second thought to taking our car because on our way  back we were SUPPOSED to swoop back into Memphis and pick up some stuff for the twizzlers that my aunt had for us. Didn’t happen. Instead we arrived at Roshini’s house at dark o’clock in the evening and continued with our trek. I was sleeping fitfully when I felt Mr. Nicholes quickly veer off the road unexpectedly in Deliverance Town, AR (about 15 minutes outside of Memphis, TN mind you) and pull into a service station. I asked what was wrong and he said that something broke under the hood. Ummm, excuse me, WHAT?! The service station that we pulled into only worked on big rigs and couldn’t help us out. I immediately heard banjoes playing the background and started to worry a little. Of course my paranoia turned out to be all for nothing, and we were picked up by a local towing company and back on the road SEVEN. HOURS. LATER. Did I mention that we had the twizzlers too? I doubt that they really cared. All they knew is that they had their mommy, and open tap on breastmilk for 1200 plus miles.

The good thing is, we were with good company. We laughed and talked, and then I mostly slept. All my giggles ran out though when it said that we were supposed to be in Houston in a short amount of town, and the gps took us on a tour of Texas as if we were filming for the Travel Channel. 30 hours later we made it to our destination and got to the hotel and I could literally TASTE a hot shower and the front desk worker informed me that they had cancelled my reservation. No bueno. Roshini then walked into the lobby – saw my face – and decided to take over before I lovingly rearranged the hotel lobby. Everything was fixed and I will say that the entire rest of the weekend was a pleasure. On the upside, I got to hang with a few more of my blogger buddies: One half of  Cosmopolitan Kids, two fourths of  Colored Girls Blogging and the owner of Greenelight Photography . The wedding was beautiful – and I have been authorized to post some of my photos that I took of them on the blog. Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. C – thank you for allowing Mr. Nicholes and I to be a part of the beginning of something so beautiful and sacred and we wish you MANY years of marital bliss!

SWAK!

All in all, it was a good trip, and I would do it again in a heartbeat just to see my good friend become one with her husband – just not TOO soon. 😉
