This Summer Teach Kids to Think Big with Galileo Camps

Galileo Camps

Even homeschoolers start thinking about camp come the end of the “school” year, and summer camps have become quite the research project for us! The ladybug will be attending a farm camp this year, while many places are still restricting the twizzlers because of age. I had a friend tell me about Galileo Camps and the fact that they accept children from preschool up to 8th grade! The fact that they are even in the Chicagoland area is a bonus, because, well, I live in Chicago. They are also located in the Bay Area and Southern California for those of you on the west coast.

There are definitely mindsets that your child can learn

Here’s a little bit of information about Galileo Camps in general:

Since 2002, Galileo Camps has been shaping a new generation of innovators by teaching kids to explore, make mistakes and create without fear! Drawing from the innovation process inspired by the Stanford Galileo’s curriculum packs serious substance and sparks kids’ imagination from pre-k through 8th grade.

For kids pre-K through 5th grade, there’s Camp Galileo where campers take on art, science, and outdoor activities tailored to their level. They learn lasting innovation skills like collaboration and reflection and take home tangible creations like a rocket, photos inspired by Ansel Adams, or even an archery bow!

For kids entering 5th grade through 8th grade there’s Galileo Summer Quest. Campers can choose from 13 immersive majors, each confidence-building, collaboration-packed session gives them an opportunity to realize their personal vision in a new inspiring subject. Campers make short films, engineer catapults, whip up inventive dishes, design custom video games, and much, much more.

One of the most impactful things about the Galileo experience is the staff and how much heart and energy they bring to camp every day. They screen thousands of applicants each year to find the absolute best people to work at their camps. The people they hire not only have the silly gene but a deep passion for education and developing young innovators as well.

Houseful Of Littles

Given that Lil’ Miss is an artist in her own right, and loves sitting down with paper and various mediums of color, I know that she would do well in the art portion of the camp. Sir Twizzler is just inquisitive in all rights, and I’m positive he’d fare well in the science portion. Actually, they BOTH would excel wherever they decide to focus, because they are amazing! The ladybug would definitely get her love of art down when she’s not away at her farm camp. We like to keep it eclectic over this way.

Being in a camp that will foster that love for all things art, science, and outdoors in one space, I’m sure that children would get a grasp on everything that’s fun about BEING a child.

Darn I wish I was in those areas. We’re in MD so I’m not too sure if these camps are an option. But this sounds like a phenomenal idea.

I live in NYC and I wish they had this camp here but you didn’t give this as an option. A great camp like this is hard to find and I have sent my kids to a few different camps and this one seem s to rival the best ones our kids have attended.

This camp sounds like such a great thing. I think it is good that camps teach your kids and help them learn. Education shouldn’t stop when school is out.

This camp sounds like a blast. When I went to camp, all we did was make candles, and get poison ivy, LOL. Camps these days are definitely more educational/offer a lot more choices than the camps when I was younger.

I laughed so hard at “and get poison ivy” because I can just see that. I’m still kind of jealous because I never got the chance to go to camp as a kid, so I’m totally living my childhood dreams with no shame!

I use to enjoy nature walks while I was in prep school, now that I have gotten older I do less walking. I hope your child enjoys her summer camp activities, it should be fun.
