Last week, I once again had the pleasure of heading down to Macy’s for a little me time. That “me” time included a fashion show for the 5 newest (and most essential) spring fashions with Ms. Jamie Krell (pictured above.) fashion expert for E! Television, and correspondent on the Today Show.
I will tell you something. I like winter. I like snow. I like bundling up. However, I like being cute, and for my cuteness to be seen, and I love the slightly warm temps that come with spring, so I’m anticipating it along with three quarters of the country now.
Sandals, lace, dresses, wedges, peplum, PRINTED PANTS, we saw it all, and I loved most of it. Here’s a sampling of the looks:
LACE
This lacy tunic has my name written all over it. I’m confident enough in my 30’s to wear white a little more often than I did in my 20’s (even with the twinsters running rampant around Chicago.) I have such a wide foot, that I am not sure how I would look in Gladiator type sandals, but they sure were sparkly and pretty!
Lacy shirts and slim pants! Great look, and even greater if I can find it in fun size! I love how the slim pants make the models legs look like they go on forever! The peep toe, suede heels are fantastic as well. Giving me enough height to pull off the look without being crazy looking.
I *LOVED* this dress as well! So simple, so me. No frills, no random necklines, no gimmicks. Pairing it with a statement piece such as a necklace or a clutch would be all I would need to do for a quick date night out with Mr. Houseful (YOU HEAR THAT?!) any night. What I also love is the belt. I’m looking for reasons to wear more belts this year, and this could very well be it.
While I love white, I’m not sure that I could wear the slim white pants yet (although these are lined.) Those shoes however? Yes ma’am, sir, Mr. President, Queen, all of that! They are fabulous!
PEPLUM
Have you taken part of the peplum trend yet? I’m looking forward to adding some pieces to my wardrobe (classic pieces like shirts and dresses) but I did enjoy seeing more of the trendier aspects that peplum can provide. The blue leather jacket is something that I know a couple of my friends could get away with. Once again, I’m enthralled with shoes. The last pair to be specific. The polka dots just call to me!
PRINTED PANTS
This is where the evening got interesting. Jamie challenged us to think outside of the box with printed pants this spring. I must admit, when she described them as pajama pants comfort, I had horrid images of coming outside dressed in sleepwear. After seeing these, I might give the trend a second thought
SHIFT DRESSES
This was the time in the fashion show that I got pretty excited. The first, third and fourth dresses were my favorites. The second was beautiful, but this mama isn’t yet comfortable with fitted items just yet. Of course, the last dress being a wrap dress took the cake. It was super feminine, and flowy, and best of all YELLOW. Now, yellow is NOT my favorite color or anything, but it represents spring fashion so well!
SWEATERS
We now that Spring in Chicago can very well mean that we may have to pull out layers at some point in time. Mostly because Spring is only Winter sleeping. These looks would allow any woman to look great while keeping warm! I love that the colors are still bright enough to keep us in the Spring frame of mind, and cozy! And here I am with Ms. Jamie Krell! She’s such a sweetheart, and I really admire the fact that she’s not afraid to pair items with each other that most of us wouldn’t think twice about. However, HER look is the one that I liked a lot. A simple blazer with a flirty dress complete with floral print. Plus she’s fun sized like me!
What are your fashion essentials when it comes to Spring? Are any on this list part of it?
