Girls Trip Gives Lessons on Picking Up Right Where You Left Off

Girls Trip Gives Lessons on Picking Up Right Where You Left Off

Girls Trip at #BlogHer17

I don’t have many women that I’m connected to. I know, I know – the world’s smallest violin is playing for me right now, but I’m serious. When my sister passed away, my homegrown road-dog was gone, and I realized that I didn’t have that group of women that EVERY movie seems to have. You know what I’m talking about. Four women. The strong matronly one, the “loose” one, the one focused on their career, and the one that tends to hold everyone together through the years. Girls Trip, a new R-rated comedy starring Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tiffany Haddish, Larenz Tate, Kate Walsh, Mike Colter, and Queen Latifah, had every one of those ladies, and more. It had a strong message, and I wasn’t expecting it to apply so heavily to my entrepreneurial life.  Don’t worry, I’m not going to post spoilers, but I am going to say that I saw the plot twist before it happened. You may see it as well, because so many people talk about how they are such great internet sleuths. However, the beginning of the movie sets into motion so many things that play out as the lifelong friends travel to the annual Essence Fest that takes place in New Orleans, LA every July.  Seeing friends that learn how to rekindle a relationship that was VERY strong over the course of the movie lets me know that it’s okay sometimes to argue and make up; to question your friends, and their desires for you. It also let me know that it’s okay to be transparent with those that love you, and only want the best for you AND it’s never too late to REBRAND your image!  Anyway, I’d like to take the time to talk about someone that I may not have known all of my life, but the travelers in us know how to keep the other lifted. That would be my friend Michelle from Divas With A Purpose. She’s my conference roomie, and the person that I know will have my back, and vice versa at these conferences. Her family and mine got together when my family traveled to Myrtle Beach last year, and she came to visit MY family last September during a conference she had here in my city.

Girls Trip Movie

If I were to take a #GirlsTrip this year, I know that she would automatically take that first spot. I have two others that would work well with us, one being my bestie from GRADE school, but she’s not online, and the other being someone that I met on a message board for black women getting married. I feel like all of these women would get along swimmingly, and we’d definitely have our share of laughs after a long weekend together.

When four lifelong friends—Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish—travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s enough dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to make the Big Easy blush. James Lopez, head of motion pictures for Will Packer Productions, and Preston Holmes, executive produce.  Girls Trip will be released by Universal Pictures in theaters July 21.

I am so counting down the days to get to see Girls Trip!! It's definitely on my list. Thing is I'm with you, I've never had truly close female friends and the few I have - we live so far apart it can become difficult to stay in touch. I had no idea the movie was set with the Essence Festival as the destination! I would love to be able to organize something like that for those friends I have that always seem to be too far away to embrace. It would be epic I'm sure!! Let's just say - my friends amplify my personality a bit and things would definitely not be boring :D *I tested to be Jada's character - The Mom but hopefully I would loosen up a bit once with my Girls!

Watching the movie with yall was seriously the highlight of my trip! The movie was brilliant and I absolutely need to see it at least 3 more times, with several different groups of girls LOL
