I don’t know about you, but my family and I are HUGE Red Robin fans. As usual, I found out about its awesomeness on a day date with Mr. Houseful several years back. It was our little secret until commercials started playing regularly on television and caught the attention of the entire child collective of our houseful. What we enjoy the most are the Freckled Lemonades that are not only bottomless, but come with sweet strawberries at the bottom of each glass. This has gotten a little sweeter, because we’re acknowledging the fact that Red Robin is gearing up to have a full day where all proceeds from the purchases of the Freckled Lemonade will support their charity partner, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
I’m not sure of when I became familiar with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, but I know that I’ve always appreciated the story behind it. Mostly because even though a sweet little girl named Alexandra Scott was fighting cancer, she still wanted to do something to make sure that other children could fight the odds. To date, her foundation has raised over $80 million towards her dream of finding a cure, while funding over 450 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
Eating out is a bit of a treat for us, but being able to eat out, and donate to a great cause such as this makes it worth it. Through something so simple as ordering one of our favorite drinks from the restaurant, we can make sure that research is being funded to help other children who are still fighting.
What Can You Do?
You can go to a participating Red Robin in your area on Wednesday, August 20, which is National Lemonade Day and give back while enjoying the great taste of Freckled Lemonade. Participating Red Robin restaurants across the nation will host lemonade stands and serve samples of Freckled Lemonade to guests and collect donations to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. If you donate $5 or more you will receive a yellow bracelet to show your support. Additionally, during grand opening week at new Red Robin locations, all proceeds from Freckled Lemonade will be donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to raise awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures. If you’ve never had a Freckled Lemonade, now would be a great time to start. It’s been the signature beverage of Red Robin for more than 20 years. In case you aren’t able to make it to a Red Robin on National Lemonade Day, you can donate four other ways:
- Purchase an Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation eGift Card at www.redrobin.com/giftcards
- Purchase Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation inspired merchandise on Red Robin’s website (live 8/18) www.redrobin.com/ALSF
- Log onto alexslemonadestand.org and donate directly to the charity
- Purchase a Freckled Lemonade at Red Robin on any other day of the year.
Now, if you need some recommendations as to what to order when you go to Red Robin, you can try one of our faves – Mr. Houseful loves getting the Whiskey River BBQ Burger with an egg on top. Nathaniel loves Banzai Burger, and I alternate between the Royal Red Robin Burger or the Guacamole Bacon. You can’t go wrong! If you’re not a carnivore, no worries. They serve Boca Burgers as well.
But don’t forget that Freckled Lemonade!
I’m lucky enough to have been given a $25 gift card to gift to one of my readers from Red Robin and all you have to do is tell me what your favorite item is from their restaurant! If you haven’t ever eaten there (you’re in for a treat) just tell me what you’re excited to try. That’s it! We’ll close this contest out on September 1, 2014.
