When the purple royal carpets of Wakanda call, you answer with your best royal garb, and a desire to see history in the making. This Monday, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the WORLD PREMIERE of Marvel Studios Black Panther and I was not disappointed. This isn’t a movie review though, y’all will have to wait for that later. Today, THIS post is the about the joy of walking the purple carpet along the likes of Hollywood royalty. It was such a surreal experience, and I’m still trying to wrap my mind around so many firsts happening for me.
I was enthralled by the beats of the drums and the sizzle of the air because of excitement and heat. There’s something to be said about seeing the Dora Milaje waiting as every cast member came to pose with them before heading in for interviews. Seeing Ms. Angela Basset shimmy in her yellow fringe jumpsuit was amazing as well. I’m still legit jealous of the guns on her body, and HOPE my arms look that way forever.
As we were standing in line, we were playing spot the celebrity and marveling at the fact that they seemed to be just as excited about seeing other folks in their career as we did. I don’t stalk celebrities online, but baby let me tell you that I had MUCH fun looking for them in the lobby, and the auditorium of the Dolby Theater. I now have a seat that I can claim at the Oscars. Ahem.
Snagging a picture with Issa Rae was fabulous. Her skin is impeccable. THEN we got the chance to take a photo with Storm Reid who will be starring as Meg Murray in Disney’s upcoming film A Wrinkle In Time. We’ll be seeing her again this month as I attend the press junket for that movie as well! I’m in book heaven right now!
There’s something SO GOOD about seeing so many variations of black skin under golden hued lights that does my heart well. The movie was the proverbial cherry on top. Add that MY black skin was there, and looking quite good if I say so myself, just made it an all you can eat buffet. I knew when I got a text from Mr. Houseful that I did well. My outfit was custom made and my hair was done by one of the best hair braiders I know. Makeup was all mine. I’m going to give the deets of the outfit in another post though.
As I was walking I spotted Sterling K Brown, Denzel Whitaker, John Voight, John Kani, Daniel Kaluuya. The different prints of dresses, and blazers and shawls were overwhelming to me. Just so much beauty under one tent.
Our phones were taken from us when we entered the Dolby Theater, so there are no photos beyond the doors. Yeah, I know, pictures or it didn’t happen. I’m just here to tell you that it happened sweetheart! The official photographers for Marvel Studios hooked you all up though, so I can share those.
Black Panther hits theaters February 16 – but until then check out the trailer!
