I think that this video is totally awesome, for various reasons. As an avid Sesame Street watcher – remember I have the ladybug in my house now – I love seeing puppets that are a representation of REAL PEOPLE! Now, don’t get me wrong. I do not hate Sesame Street, I think that I am just monstered out. So imagine my glee, when I not only saw a puppet that was representative of the human species, but a BLACK PUPPET! And a BLACK PUPPET sporting an Afro. If you haven’t guessed it by now, I’m a black woman who sports an Afro occasionally. I also wear braids, twists, straight hair (although not often because it’s too much work for this lazy mom to keep up lately) flat twists, and any other hairstyle I can imagine. It’s refreshing to see a representation of myself on the television show rather than a monster. But that’s just me. It’s also refreshing to see a representation of myself that is HAPPY about an item on her body that would normally garner a WHOLE lot of attention from others who don’t have the type of hair that she has. My son has locs, I have natural hair (chemically unaltered) and my daughter will too as long as she lives under my roof. However, I’m not consumed by my hair. If I did chemically alter it I would STILL LOVE IT! That’s why I love this video so much. Because it shows this perfect little puppet with every hairstyle, and type imaginable and she is still happy as a lark. Kudos to you Sesame Street! Kudos!
