It’s that time again! Prom time planning is alive and well in the hearts and minds of many a teen around the country. I remember back in 1998 – YES almost twenty (yikes) years ago, when Mr. Houseful and I were busy trying to figure out our prom style for each of our respective schools. We went in classing black and white for his, and a champagne theme for mine. I spent countless days in our local department stores looking for the perfect dress to wear. Prom fashion has definitely changed a lot since I was in high school, but there are several styles that I can appreciate for their clean lines and hat tips to classic Hollywood glamour.
In a little corner of Macy’s in Schaumburg Illinois 300 or so tween and teen girls waited not so patiently for teen lifestyle vlogger, Meredith Foster to make an appearance and share which styles were an absolute must have for her. The screams echoed throughout the entire second floor of the department store, and the excitement definitely coursed through the atmosphere.
Reminded me of how I would be acting if I got to wait arms length from Bruno Mars or Benedict Cumberbatch. You shall not judge me.
Last year, I was able to check out the prom styles of Macy’s as well, but the vantage point that I had this time around didn’t grant me as much freedom as I would have liked, so I only have photos looking up, instead of full body shots. Believe me, had I been outside of the tape, you would have gotten the back of hundreds of heads of hair, and I’m short. Here is one dress that I loved so much that I ended up trying to hunt for it after the show. It screams old school glamour and I think that the dress would look great on almost anyone.
One aspect that I had great views of were the shoes that are making their way into the hearts of 11 and 12 year olds everywhere. I can only imagine how their mothers heads were spinning at the heights the heels were climbing. My favorite pair are pictured below and I love them because of their sparkly nature. I’m all about an understated dress as far as sparkle goes, but upping the ante when it comes to footwear.
After the show of possible prom styles, Meredith was kind enough to take photos with 100 lucky girls and even sign autographs for a few of the audience members who weren’t able to get VIP passes. There were lots of screams of “I LOVE YOU MERE!” and “MERE, I LOVE YOUR (HAIR, MAKEUP, DRESS, SHOES, SHOW, PHONE CASE!)” Ah, to be young and without a care in the world.
Being in the midst of prom fashion got me thinking about what I would wear if I was going to prom this year – of course as a chaperone or a teacher, not a student. I settled on a dress that I found on the Macy’s site, and a pair of sky high heels of course! I am in LOVE with the color navy lately, and I think that I have a pretty kick butt set of arms, so I would choose to show those off along with my collarbone. With some Spanx and lots of prayer, I’d be able to pull this look off. Seriously though, I LOVE this, and a statement necklace with matching earrings and bracelet would do this piece justice and make me feel more adult than ’90’s teen. What did you wear to prom? Do you still back the choice that you made?
