All Fish Faces – Picture Book Of Tropical Fish

Homeschooling

The longer I homeschool, the more I see how much my children really do love everything about exploration and going places they aren’t able to physically go at the moment. Like the Tropical Reef. Instead, we find ways to creatively explore, and sometimes that brings us gems like All Fish Faces: Photos & Fun Facts About Tropical Reef Fish by Tam Warner Minton.

This is a compensated post and all opinions are my own.

We often realize that the simplest lessons are often the best. My children and I were able to thumb through this picture book and dive deep (see what I did there) into more of the world of tropical reef fish because of marine photographer and author Tam Warner Minton.

Elementary Science With Fish Photos

Full color photos accompany each type of fish mentioned, with fun facts also making an appearance too. This book took me back to thumbing through the Animal entry of the World Book Encyclopedia when I was younger.

Using Picture Books to Spark Discussion

While this book is a starting point for my kids, since they are a bit older than the intended age for the book, it was a PERFECT start for an intense research project that I’ve been told that they will be doing when school starts back in a couple of weeks. We’re going to be making a mural of the ocean, and placing hand-drawn images of the types of fish that can live there. Looks like I have to stock up on my art supplies for sure!

We also had an important discussion about climate change, and how the actions of humans are really making the ocean change for the inhabitants. We talked about things that are making the water temperature rise and why that’s not very good for any of the living beings. We also talked about things we could do to slow down the damage we are doing, and we’ve promised to make that change all the way from Chicago, Illinois!

If you want to purchase the book you can purchase from three vendors.
