Miracle-Gro Gro-ables Update!

Hey there everyone! A couple of weeks ago, I shared a post about some Miracle-Gro Gro-ables that I had been sent to plant and prepare to harvest for a great pasta sauce. I couldn't plant them right away because Chicago weather has been a bit moody, even in my drafty home. We got a chance to plant the Gro-ables a couple of weekends ago, and we're just waiting for them to sprout 

I did have Lil Miss, and the Ladybug help me with the potting soil, and the cellist even stepped in to help for a bit. I'm not too sure that I trusted Sir Twizzler, but he was down for a nap while we were planting, so I sidestepped that.

We decided to go with colorful planters and we also picked up three more pods too! I now have Basil, Cilantro, Cucumbers, Lettuce, Spinach and Tomatoes. We will now have a cool mini garden perfect for making salads! 

We visited Target to pick up our planting supplies and more pods to gets us started. I was tempted to  pick up another tomato pod, and the sweet peppers, but maybe we'll get them later. I also picked up potters in teal and red, and some potting soil.  

When I got home, it was great to get started on the planting of the pods. Lil Miss had a lot of fun digging holes in the soil, and pushing the pods down to dirt level. It was great for her hand eye coordination as well. We also discussed the growing stages of seeds with the kids too. The cellist got a bit of a chance to show off his "big brother" smarts with the children as well. 

After we finished planting the pods, we took the planters outside for some fresh air, and sunshine. We've only had to water them once since it's been raining on and off in Chicago since we planted. We're anxiously waiting for our first shoot to push through the soil (shout out to The Secret Garden!) before we do a happy dance. 

I loved the ease of planting with the pods. It was great to be able to include the littles in creating a garden. We literally poured soil into planters, dug a hole into the soil, and dropped the pod in. No need to use any tools but our hands.

 I can see many gardens being started by young children, and them not having to worry about spacing the pods out for now. Hopefully, they would learn deeper gardening secrets the older that they became, but wouldn't have to worry so much about it at the age points of my children. It's also a great deal for those of us who are adults and have NO gardening experience whatsoever. The pods are biodegradeable as well, so you don't have to worry about where the outer shell goes.

 I can't wait to show you the salads that we'll be making!
