So, I’m a fan of Yes Diva’s Can Cook on facebook and sometime last week or so, she posted a video of herself making apple butter in the crock pot. After watching the video, I was reaffirmed that I could, indeed make apple butter. I did revamp the recipe a little by adding allspice and a little bit more of the spices than she did – because I prefer a spicier (not hotter) version of the smooth spread.
My pictures are not from my digital camera as I was in and out of the house all day – the joy of using the crock pot – so I used my cell phone. My poor blackberry is getting no more love from me as it does NOT take great mobile photos. However, here we go.

Start with twelve or so apples that are peeled, cored and diced. Put in the vanilla extract, and lemon or lime juice from the recipe listed on Yes Diva's Can Cook blog.

All done. After 24 hours of cooking. I finally got the velvety smooth apple butter ready for canning.
If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a comment or an email. I’d be happy to answer. In the meantime, enjoy some of this on some homemade buttermilk biscuits, or toast. It’s delicious!
Ooh this looks good! Have you made pumpkin butter? I tried my hand at it last night and I’m not so sure about it. Maybe I just don’t like pumpkin butter : / I’ve had apple and pear, but tried pumpkin since I had so many of them. DH likes it, but I don’t know. I’ll probably just turn it into pies 🙂
I’m only finding pumpkin butter recipes that use the already pureed pumpkin. I’m going to try it this weekend though and report back!
Yay, pumpkin butter success! After trouble shooting my 1st attempt, I tried again last night. Oh man it turned out so good…I guess I do like pumpkin butter 🙂 I’ll probably post about it this weekend, but my main issues were too much spice, not blending the fresh pumpkin well enough and not cooking long enough.
Oh yeah, if you make some, let me know how yours turn out 🙂
