Spelling City Combats Summer Loss

Spelling City Combats Summer Loss

This is a sponsored post by VocabularySpellingCity.com.  I received their Summer Program at no cost for review. All opinions are 100% my own.

It’s officially the end of the school year for us! Nathaniel graduates this morning, and we’re entering into that time where we all want a break, but I know that if we slack off too much, I’ll be met with severely atrophied brain muscles in the fall. Well, probably not Nathaniel, since he will be attending summer school as required by the scholarship committee that he’s receiving. I still want to do my part, and make sure that he keeps all of that greatness at the forefront, while still allowing him to learn in a relaxed setting. This is where Spelling City will help me. I’m not sure how your children feel about learning during the summer time, but I only have an issue with my oldest. When school lets out, he wants to be OFF! I figured though, with this mandatory summer school, I could sneak right in and piggyback there.

I’m also thinking of starting the Ladybug on this program as well. I’m noticing more and more, that she is asking the definition of words, or sharing her definition of them with her twin brother and sister. This lets me know that she is working to expand that great little mind of hers and fill it to the brim with knowledge. Words are definitely powerful, and knowing several words that mean the same thing can make your storytelling, or research papers (in Nathaniel’s case) go from good to great.

I know that summertime brings with it a certain wish to relax, but we all need to make sure that we don’t just veg out to the point of having to start all over again with learning. That slipper slope that comes about with those two and a half months off require LOTS of jumpstarting on the part of the teacher, and I’d like to do my best to help Nate’s teachers out AND myself when it comes to homeschooling. Having a Summer Program will definitely help with that.

The summer program is an 8-week long structured program of weekly word study for students in 1st through 12th grade. Each daily assignment includes a new grade level appropriate word list and 5 learning activities. Although it can be used as a daily exercise, the program is self-paced, so kids can take vacation breaks, or choose to work at the pace they prefer, which helps us immensely, and allows time for vacation, or just rest days.

As a homeschooling mom, I will say that the structure of this program makes it VERY easy to set your children up and move on to your others who may not be as self guided as you would like, or in my case, a set of three- year-old twins. All they need is a password, and they can go. Families that buy the Summer Program also get the Premium Membership for an entire year with all of these extras:

 Premium Membership

  • Vocabulary, writing, spelling, and language arts activities
  • Access to ALL games and interactive Flash Cards
  • Student progress tracking
  • Automated testing and grading
  • Personalized learning with assignments for differentiated instruction
  • Student logins with no commercial ads

Now, if I can just get my life together enough to plan out the rest of the homeschool year, I will feel a little better. So, my homeschooling moms and dads, could you use a little help in vocabulary and spelling structure? Check it out!
