Elmer’s Painters Paint Markers Project

I am a member of the Collective Bias™ Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias™. #CBias #SocialFabric

Earlier last week I was contacted to do a review and write-up of the Elmer’s Painters Paint Markers and I chose the medium of ceramic to work with. Boy, did I have to pull out my crafter’s hat for this one. I still feel like I didn’t do the craft justice, but I sure did have fun coming up with something to do.

Here at the Houseful homestead, we’re celebrating the graduation of Mrs. Houseful’s mom (Mor-Mor) with her bachelor’s degree. Fortunately, Mor-Mor and Mrs. Houseful share the same frame of thought when it comes to “themed” gifts. Don’t get them for us. We like things that we can use that won’t be automatically linked to a certain event just by the way that it looks. You know, green and red for Christmas, pastels for Easter, etc…

So, I chose to make her a base for a large picture frame that she can add whatever photos that she wants to. I’ll add one of our family, and then she can add any others that she would like. The fact is, I’m still not sure how to get those picture wires to stick – so I’ll end up doing another post for that.

But let’s get to the meat of the project! Painting the pot!

For this project I headed on out to my local Wal-Mart

and moseyed on over to the craft aisle, but NOT before I became distracted by something that I seriously considered throwing into my cart:

It’s seriously like tempting a dog with a mail carrier. Honestly. Tell me you can pop just ONE of these bubbles and stop, and I’ll call you a big fat fibber.

Anyhoo, I got to the craft aisle and I was pleased to see that they did indeed have all of the available colors for the Painters Paint Markers for me to choose from.

They come in five different color choices: Bright, Calligraphy, Craft, Neon and Pearlescent. I ended up choosing the Craft colors, which included Orange, Yellow, Brown, Purple and Pink paint colors.

Here are the other supplies that I collected:

1. Planters Pot

2. Elmer’s Painters Paint Markers

3. Paintbrush

4. Mod Podge (spray can or bottled – it doesn’t matter)

*Make sure you lay newspaper or some other protective covering down over the carpet or table that you are working on*

I then primed the pot with a white metallic paint as a base for the Painters Paint Markers and went crazy with the dot decorating! Seriously, I free-handed all of it, and just had a ball with it. No trying to be perfect with the circles or dots, and I stopped when I was satisfied.

The markers were just like painting. Meaning that if you apply too much, you will have the little paint drips that end with the bulb of dried paint at the end. Good thing about me, is that I didn’t care enough to be annoyed with myself for being impatient. So, unlike me, make sure that you’re not applying too much paint at one time, otherwise it will drip and then streak.

Overall, I think that these would be perfect for a school project where you want a little bit more of a pop of color and that you really want to get into decorating. The good thing is it can also be used on wood, pottery, ceramic, glass, metal, paper, plastic and fabrics.

All in all, I can see up making a ton of different projects to coincide with our homeschooling projects, as well as holiday and birthday gifts. The sky is the limit! Elmer’s also makes it super easy to pick and choose colors in single options as well. Just check out your local Wal-Mart where they start at the low price of $1.97 each.

I had a fun time trying to figure out what to do. I had to channel Ms. Nesti from an art class in high school, and just "paint whatever came to mind," which happened to be dots. Thanks for stopping through!
