Muddy Buddy Chex Mix

Growing up, I was always intrigued by the children who brought Chex Mix to school for parties. It was literally a foreign concept to me. Not because I couldn’t get behind having a mix of cereal, pretzels, and garlic pita chips to munch on as a child, but because my mother just didn’t make it. I’m also finding out from my best friend, that her mother didn’t make it either. I’m in good company.

Anyhoo, you all are VERY aware that I am the Box Tops Coordinator for the school that the Cellist attends and currently one of the grocery stores that I frequent is offering bonus Box Tops when you buy any combination of 4 General Mills cereals. So I picked up Chex cereal. Something I don’t usually do. The great thing is, there are all types of  recipes on the Box Tops Website that I could use, AND there were four recipes on the back of the cereal box.

This recipe took:

9 cups of Rice, Corn, or Regular Chex Cereal

1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup of peanut butter

1/4 cup of butter or margarine

1 Tsp of vanilla

1 and 1/2 cups of powdered sugar.

Pour the cereal into a bowl and set aside. Combine the chocolate, butter and peanut butter in a microwave safe bowl and set for 1 minute. Stir until combined. Zap it another 30 seconds and stir until smooth. Add the vanilla. Pour contents over the cereal, and mix until it is well coated. After that, put the coated cereal into a gallon sized freezer bag and add the powdered sugar. Toss until well coated and store for consumption or eat it right away!

The twizzlers love it too, although I do think that I am going to end up with some very spunky children this evening.

Do you all have any Chex Mix recipes that you like? Share below!

*Disclaimer – this is NOT a recipe that I created, but one that I tried and liked that was on the back of a box of Corn Chex cereal. I’m not attempting to even BE this creative on a regular basis. Carry on.

Great to hear that. I don't have that much a sweet tooth, but my youngest children love it as a small snack during the day. I'm happy that I made them. Now I need to make a more savory one for me, and Mr. Houseful.

Hey there lady! Thanks for stopping by. Now I'm in the mood to make Chex Mix weekly, just too much sugar for me on this one!

I think I had a similar experience as a child. To this day it's not something I seek out to eat but it's not bad. I don't have a recipe that I make but perhaps it's something to add to my list of things to try with the boy.

Laila - I'm hoping that I can find a mixture that I like. This one is great for small hand snacking, but not long term, you know? LOL!
