Were you coming to see if the babies have been here for two weeks? Ha HA! Nope, we’re talking about prodromal labor! I just BET that when you signed on to be a follower of this blog, you didn’t think that you would learn any new terms when it came to pregnancy and bringing forth life to this world. And if you already knew about prodromal labor and haven’t told me – WHY? Do you NOT love me? What’s that about?!
I am now 14 days into this phenomenon and I have some interesting thoughts on it. It IS exhausting. I won’t lie. VERY, VERY, VERY exhausting, BUT I have learned to recognize the signs of when it is about to start and curtail it to the best of my abilities. To date, my way of softening the blow of the contractions are as follows:
~ a bath as hot as I can stand. It helps with the back labor and the intense contractions and resulting ROLLING of the babies to the top of my uterus.
~ tennis balls rolling across my back
~ back massage if I can stand to be touched (sometimes it’s a little irritating – it usually depends on the intensity and length of the contractions)
~ a VERY patient husband who is literally going through this with me.
I am grateful that I have found a group of women and even a blogger who have shed a LOT of light on this subject for me. If you happen to be pregnant or are thinking of getting pregnant in the near future or again – and you find yourself ALWAYS having these types of contractions, I suggest that you find an online group or real life group who can help you feel a little bit better about what’s going on in your body. For a long while I was starting to feel like I was going crazy because no one knew what I was talking about. Then I went into my Due Date Club on http://www.mothering.com/ and just decided to post to see if anyone else was going through what I was. BOY was I surprised! Not only were others going through it, but I happened to hook up with another mama who has an entire blog dedicated to the subject. It’s GREAT reading for me and helps alleviate some of the anxiousness that I have over the entire subject. Here’s her blog: http://nmfrogblog.blogspot.com/ and if you stop by, let her know that I sent you!
Here’s to getting to 37 weeks though! Just four more days for me!!!!
