Top O’ The Morning Pancakes

Top O’ The Morning Pancakes

Top O' The Mornin' Pancakes

Top O’ The Morning to ya! The last several days in our Houseful have been full of learning about the color green and making green food, basically to coincide with the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. I figured what better way to start the celebration than with these green Top O’ The Morning Pancakes.

St. Patrick’s Day began as a holiday to remember the life of a man named St. Patrick who did good work in Ireland in the late 5th Century. But over the years, St. Patrick’s Day has become more of a day to simply celebrate being Irish. Traditional symbols of the holiday are shamrocks, Leprechauns, and of course, wearing the color green! Today, because the chilly temps are keeping us inside, YET AGAIN, instead of wearing green, we’re eating green foods, and what better meal to start with than breakfast?

As a Box Tops For Education blogger, I’m often given recipes to try, and this was one of them. The recipe can be found on Betty Crocker, but here are the ingredients as follows:

Ingredients

2 cups Original Bisquick® mix
cup milk
teaspoon vanilla
eggs
teaspoon green food color
1/2 cup marshmallows from Lucky Charms® cereal
Whipped cream topping (from aerosol can), if desired
Additional marshmallows from Lucky Charms® cereal, if desired
Mix all ingredients (aside from whipped cream and extra marshmallows) together and cook as directed on the back of the Bisquick box. Essentially, you’re cooking the pancakes until the outside edge has bubbled and popped. You will then flip the pancake and continue cooking on the other side.
Once again, the houseful of littles enjoyed their green food, and ended up eating every single pancake that I cooked. One of these days, I’m going to have to make sure that my children are dressed for breakfast so I can actually take photos of them enjoying food, otherwise you won’t believe they eat. Or at least eat the food that I photograph.
I’m going to go ahead and say that I could do this food sans the marshmallows. I know, I know, I’m turning into an old lady with an inability to handle sweets, and you would be correct.
I will say though, that I am very happy to be able to make fun food with my little ones. It helps to keep the kids on their toes about what they may be getting. The suggestions for other color pancakes have already started. I’m pretty sure that this year’s Easter egg dyeing with also be loads of fun.
So, will you be making any special green food for St. Patrick’s day? Share with us below!
