The Aftermath

Goodness gracious I am livid.

My good friend Janelle from Renegade Mama just taught an amazing class, and let us know that we should sit on impassioned writing for at least 24 hours before publishing. Today, I’m probably going to make her mad.

I want to stay respectful, even though horrible thoughts and feelings are bubbling against my being right this moment.

I want to say that I know that everything will be okay.

I want to say that my children will be okay.

I want to say that my friends will be okay.

I can’t say those things, because at this moment, I don’t believe those things.

We all know that history has a way of repeating itself. I’m a STRONG believer in Christ. I know that no man is the be all and end all for my life. But it certainly feels that way.

I’m not sure how America can consider itself great after the election results. We aren’t just a Christian country. We aren’t just a white country. We aren’t just an educated country. Part of what makes America so great is the fact that we’re made up of so many different people. PEOPLE. There are people at stake here, and I feel like so many people were forgotten.

Did you see the SNL sketch with Tom Hanks on Jeopardy. Did you see how closely his life correlated with the black folk that he was competing against? This is what the reality in America is. We’re all very much the same, but only SOME of us are too conceited to think so.

The folks that want us to stop making everything a race thing, won last night. Congratulations to you. Congratulations to your Republican led House and Republican led Congress. Congratulations to the new Supreme Court Justices that you will more than likely LOVE when they are nominated by the new President of the United States.

I ABSOLUTELY think that the President-Elect was right when he said that uneducated people love him. I don’t think that this only applies to those who didn’t attend a four year college or university. I think it applies to those who don’t really understand what they did when they elected him into office.

I feel like half of America figuratively stood on a bridge after a bad relationship and screamed “BURN IT ALL DOWN!” and they did. America is burning, and you know who is going to take the blame? Not the ones who lit the match, but the ones who burn in the fire.

My heart is hurting. I keep wanting to wallow in self pity, but the amazing thing is I serve the same God that so many people used in their election of this man, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that He knows all. I wish that he’d give me a PEEK, because…

I know that life isn’t over, but if you think that the fringe is going to go away quietly, think again. Our country isn’t about to be made great again. The greatness was sucked out for me, last night.

America, congrats on your 45th President. I hope you don’t have buyers remorse, because I certainly didn’t the last eight years.

Love you. You are wonderful, and as you know, I publish all the time before the 24-hour-review window. :) Sometimes we just have to speak from the heart. Thank you for doing so.

As you may know, I'm pregnant. We don't find out what we are having for another week and a half. But all I can think right now is, if my child is a girl - how to I explain that half of a country she is supposed to love voted for a man that feels she is less? And if my child is a boy - how can I possibly teach him that there are sometimes people in power who we cannot use as role models? I know that at the most, this man will run my country for 8 years (I'll pray every day for less), but as REM's "The End of the World as We Know It" continues to run thru my head, I can't help but think it's a horrible idea to bring a child into this version of the world.

Andrea,

This has been my plight since having children, and I SO feel you on this. It's just a sad state of affairs for our nation. That so many people are disenfranchised with a government that they are willing to throw it to someone who CLEARLY doesn't know anything about it. I won't be surprised if he rehashes some of President Obama's policies and tries to pawn them off as his own so that he can look like a great guy.

This morning I prayed with my child. I told her that just because a woman was not elected to the presidency does not mean that women are any less valuable. My child responded by saying that we should keep President Obama in the White House because "he's her president and she'll miss him." She is eight years old, and he's the only president she has ever known. She thinks of him as family. I'm at a loss this morning. I could explain away people stealing Hillary signs from our yard to her. I'm not sure what to say to her, or myself, about what's to come.

Nicole,

While I think that Obama did the best that he could in the 8 years that he had, America wasn't truly ready for him. My five year old daughter just let out an "AW MAN!" when we told her who our new President would be. I've taken great steps to make sure that they aren't around for any political discourse, because I don't want to put them under that stress. I'm not sure where they gleaned what they did, but they have, and the impression has been made. I can only hope that these 4 years are the only ones that he serves.
