Potty Training Tools

Okay, I was asked by one of my readers to give a rundown of what we used with the ladybug to potty train her. Please bare with me because a lot of the images are not available online (I think that the brand of training pants that we used are/were listed under a different brand name.)

Okie Dokie Training Pants from JCPenney on a deep discount (2 for .99)  which look like this:

but obviously aren’t these since they say Gerber. I love that they are just like underwear that she will graduate into, instead of the absorbent diaper like situations that Pull-Ups and the like have. I also think that with these types of training pants, the ladybug connected “big girl” with them, and not, convenience that the Pull-Ups gave. We were noticing that she would have no problem with using the bathroom in the disposable training pants then she does with the terry cloth type ones.

We also started her on a potty chair by Safety 1st from Buy Buy Baby that was purchased for $9.99 (not bad if I do say so myself.)

We found out that this didn’t work as well in a room outside of the bathroom because SHE needed to associate using the potty with actually going to the bathroom to do it. There were a lot of learning curves during this process, and it took MONTHS to figure out what worked for us and what didn’t. Overall, the actual training portion of the whole time actually took one week of intense work on the part of Mr. Nicholes and myself. We asked her constantly if she had to use the bathroom – even if she hadn’t had any liquids in the last fifteen minutes or so. We then found that after several days of this, she started coming to us to let us know that she had to go potty. It was a long wait, but it is definitely worth it since she will NOT be in diaper change mode once her twin siblings get here.
We did also use some waterproof training pants from Gerber that I am not too pleased with. Mostly because they weren’t absorbent if she did happen to have an accident and then they would overflow into her pants. I just figured if you had a waterproof liner on the outside then it should be waterproof. But that’s just me.
Overall, I think that this might be a method that I use with the twins when it is time to potty train them. OY! Potty training two at one time. I’ll just bask in this victory for now and focus on the twins when the time comes.

Thank you Mrs. N for posting what you used for the Ladybug's potty training success! I used the pullups with the kid, but the next go round, I'll be heading over to JC Penny. It may not take as long the next time.

Congratulations to the Ladybug for being a potty trained BIG GIRL!! Whoop whoop!! :-D
