Men In Black 3 – A Day Out #Couchcritics

If you know me, you know that this weekend was chock full of events. Library story time with the ladybug, a little shopping, a movie and an engagement party. I’m TIRED, but happy.

The movie that I have been anticipating for a while now because I may have a not so secret crush on Mr. Will Smith, is Men In Black 3. I enjoyed the first two of the franchise, although I readily admit that the first one was by far greater than the second. I’m not sure that I went in with many expectations given that I am now fourteen years older than when the first movie came out. Yeah, let’s not hang around on that little fact for too long. I initially told my husband that I wanted to go to the midnight viewing of this movie, but I remembered quickly back to the last midnight viewing that we did, and quickly changed my mind.

Men In Black 3 is a movie that garnered a PG-13 rating because of some swearing, and a couple of rough or scary situations. Now, before you all jump down my throat for taking the ladybug, I’ll let you know that she spent most of the time sipping happily on her fruit punch and dancing to all of the usual MIB filler music that played during the movie.

The premise of the movie starts when a convict that Agent K, played by Tommy Lee Jones,  arrested 40 years ago escapes, and returns to the past to kill him. However, none of this happens before Agent J (played by Will Smith) continues to try to chip away at K’s tough exterior. He wants to know the WHY of K’s personality. Why exactly he acts the way that he does. So surly, and never smiling. K quickly lets him know that sometimes, there are questions that you may not want to know the answer to. Time travel ensues, and we find ourselves face to face with a 29 year old K, brilliantly played by Josh Brolin. I mean, he literally nails all of the quirks that makes Tommy Lee Jones so perfect in the role of Agent K.

The plot was pretty loose at times, and there were some instances where it moved a little bit too fast, but for people who were probably fans like me when the first movie came out, I’m pretty sure we weren’t expecting Oscar worthy plots. There is one particular scene that really stood out with me, and that’s because we FINALLY get to understand why Agent K acts the way he does, and it’s pretty emotional. Yes, there was an emotional portion of the movie. I had to almost check myself to keep from shedding a tear or two. Do NOT judge me!

If I had to give this movie a rating – and I do, because I’m part of  #CouchCritics – I would give it a solid 3 out of 5 couches. Mostly because it was just entertaining enough to not make me want to go to sleep, but not so great that I would feel the need to go and see it again, and that’s saying a lot because I LOVE Will Smith.

There was one thing that I did this time around that was consistent to the last time I anticipated a movie this much. That was, going to Fandango to order my tickets to make sure that the movie slot that I wanted wasn’t going to be sold out. Especially since this was opening weekend to one of the biggest box office draws (Will Smith.) For those of you who don’t know, Fandango is an online site that allows you to purchase movie tickets to theaters before going in and finding out that the movie is sold out. All you need is a form of payment, including PayPal or any credit card and knowledge of what theater you want to go to, and you can have your tickets in as little as ten minutes!

I did it while holding one of the twizzlers on Friday, and they even allow you to use Facebook to sign in, so you don’t have to remember ANOTHER sign on and password.

The site is easy to navigate and even gives you options to make several purchases at once, so if you want to plan date nights for several days, you can.

There were even reviews from other people who had seen the movie before me. Most of them stated that it was just a fun movie, and that if you were a fan of the other two, then you would enjoy the third.

This was my favorite part about check out. The fact that I could just have the tickets sent to my cell phone instead of printing out a piece of paper and remembering to take it with me. This is invaluable to me, because I’m notorious for leaving the house and leaving paper that I need in it. Just ask Mr. Houseful, he’ll let you know with a grunt that I do this more often that he’d like.
