Make It A Date Night IN

Make It A Date Night IN
DSC_1942

It’s about to get a little sexy, and a whole lot of fun in the Houseful Of Nicholes. No, we’re not having another baby, and no we’re not planning on it either. However, we are sharing great ideas for an intimate date night INSIDE and the research was AWESOME (this only works if you kind of sing the word awesome.) We may have some tips on  intimacy further down in this post too. Promise not to make you blush! Hopefully though, in response to the question of your next date, you’ll be telling your honey, “We’re having a date night IN tonight!”

With Valentine’s Day coming up, and with so many people WITH children trying to figure out what to do, I figured that I would try my hand at giving you a couple of options that work for me and Mr. Houseful. You can apply as necessary or choose to go a totally different way, either way, just have fun, because that’s what it’s all about when having a date night anyway. FUN!

For this opportunity, we headed to our local Walmart and checked out their selection for things that could make our date night IN wonderful, including, but not limited to the KY Yours + Mine personal lubricant for couples.

Make A Meal You’ll Love

We focused on the meal for this particular date night, because we both love food, and we don’t often get to eat it hot with the twizzlers around. We also wanted something a bit more grown up too. We settled on steaks, then the potatoes, and I decided to make it healthy by rounding it out with fixins’ for a salad. Everything in balance, y’all.

Prepare for A Great Night IN

We then moseyed on over to the intimate section of our preferred store to check out their selection of KY products.

From the looks of it, they were unpacking more, getting ready for the Valentine’s Day rush I’d say. Then it was back home to start planning for our couple of hours of freedom.

At the time of this post we picked up the Date Night pack which also offered a great deal for Plated and a $5  Vudu  movie credit for you to stream right at home. So even if you can’t use any of the ideas from this post, you can always take it easy with dinner and a movie, right in the comfort of your own home. Oh, and HELLO, they have the third season of Sherlock already. That’s already a win, and an opportunity to get another date together later in the month.

With our dinners on hand, we settled with our video streaming credit, and each other.

Enjoy The Company Of Each Other

It’s always odd how often I plan to get out of the house, when the best dates come from INSIDE it. I would have attempted to have a picnic on the floor, but the thought of having to clean up the twizzlers latest creation from their kitchen gave me nightmares, so I just moved it to the side and pretended it didn’t exist.

We settled down with some great episodes of television that we can’t watch while the littles are awake since they tend to be a little too adult for them. It allowed us to laugh at things that were grown up, and I didn’t have to think about PBS, and he didn’t have to think about coding for a full three hours.

We then starting talking about our favorite dates that we have taken in the past, and I decided to share them with you – maybe you can do your own variation in the future:

  • Trips to museums, with no exhibit or focus. Just walking aimlessly and stopping when something catches our eye.
  • Walking to Brookfield Zoo from Lake/Harlem Train Stop (a little over 11 miles – we were young)
  • Dinner and a midnight movie screening of The Hunger Games
  • A dinner cruise on the Odyssey
  • Finding a new restaurant to go to (through Check, Please!) and trying it.
  • Hanging out  in the stacks of our main library in downtown Chicago.

From the reminiscing, we found several things. We like quirky things, and we don’t like to spend a lot of money. Can I get an amen?! Basically, what I am trying to encourage you to do is find what makes things special for the both of YOU. How about switching roles? Buy HIM some flowers and a card! Make HER dinner and have a bath running when she gets home from work.

Don’t try to emulate other people’s dates if it doesn’t fit your personality.  What works in Chicago may not work in other cities. Find what makes your city or your area unique and explore the heck out of it! It makes for fun times and great memories.

Then when you’re finished exploring, you can come home and ‘play.’ Hubba, Hubba

So, tell me, what great plans do you have for Valentine’s Day this year AND for continued date night (or day date) fun? Share, and maybe we can kick the habit of “old, married couples” not doing anything.

They really did create a great pack with His&Hers! It does make a difference when the oneness is not on one person and on both!
