With a son that is now 14 years of age, and has his own debit card (that dad and I have full access to, since it’s attached to our checking account) money management skills are as important as ever. If I can teach them in a way that doesn’t have him rolling his eyes and huffing out a huge sigh before being threatened, it’s the best thing ever. So, when given the opportunity to check out Cashflow by the author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, I was super excited. What makes me even more “geeked” about the game is the fact that for Christmas, my brother Daniel who is the undisputed champion of Monopoly will be here so that we can mop the floor with him. Given that it’s described as Monopoly on steroids, I think that good times and great learning shall be had by all.
I remember getting my first checking account in college (yes, college) and wanting everything to be perfect as far as my finances go. Well, with pretty decent training from my mom, I was able to keep things as best as I could. However, I could have had a bit more understanding of other things (like credit cards, etc) before entering into the world of financial management. I made LOTS of mistakes, and learned through each and every single one of them. If I can help my children NOT make those mistakes while having fun, then I’m all for it!

My kids might be a little too young for this game, but my nephews are teenagers and this would be perfect for them. Shoot, I need to play it and learn some things! This is brilliant. We need to do a better job of educating children on being financially savvy and making sound financial decisions.
