DIY Box Tops Collection Bin

DIY Box Tops Collection Bin

#Hefty4BoxTops

The crazy Box Tops for Education Lady is back! This time, I’m going to show you a DIY tutorial for collecting Box Tops in Your home if you don’t like leaving a baggie or envelope on the refrigerator. With this tutorial, you can get the kids involved if possible, or you can totally create a couple while they are in school or napping – if you’re lucky enough to get them to nap. I’m going to show you how to create a collection box made from Hefty trash bag boxes, because it’s nice to recycle the empty boxes, right?

#Hefty4BoxTops

The great thing about starting this now is the fact that lots of brands are giving you a chance to collect 4xs the Box Tops on their products. If your family is like mine, LARGE, you probably go through quite a bit of garbage during the summer. With everyone at home seemingly all of the time, and eating ALL OF THE TIME, garbage collection never seems to come fast enough. Hefty is making that time seem like it’s passing by, with their limited time offer of 4 Box Tops for Education on specially marked packages of their trash bags. They also have great new scents too! I picked up a box of the Clean Citrus (which took me FOREVER to find)  from Meijer, but Lavender Vanilla is also available. Given that Hefty is the only trash bag that supports Box Tops for Education, you better believe that it’s the only trash bag that I purchase. Not only that, but since joining the program, Hefty has raised more than $3 million dollars for education.

Let me be the first to tell you that I am also excited to see the FOUR Box Tops for Education on these specially marked packages of Hefty throughout stores that carry them. It’s only available for a limited time, so make sure you grab them while you can. They’ll be in stock for the Back to School shopping season, so get out there and grab them while you can! It helps when those Box Tops competitions come through for your child’s classrooms.

Since I’ve been a coordinator for so long – since Nathaniel was in PreK as a matter of fact (remember, he’s 15 now) I have a bit of practice when it comes to this collection thing, and I’ve had my share of collection bins around the house. However, I like making the bins and passing them on to businesses around the school so they can help us collect as well. Every Box Tops helps!

Here are the supplies you will need:

#Hefty4BoxTops-Supplies

Hefty Trash Bag Box, velcro tabs, wrapping paper or duct tape, printed version of Box Tops for Education Coupon, scissors.

Start with the Hefty Odor Block box, and opened it from the side, not the perforated portion on top.

Take out the ENTIRE roll of trash bags but do NOT tape the side panels together just yet. You’ll see why in a minute.

Wrap the entire box in your favorite dressing. I decided to use hot pink duct tape in the shade of the Box Tops for Education colors.

Take two pairs of velcro tabs and match them up on the ends of the panels so that it closes when attached. This will be how you retrieve your Box Tops without having to tear up the entire collection bin and start over again. I also used Chalkboard Tape to adorn the front of the box. This way you can write the class number, or teacher’s name on it.

Cut a slit in the top of your collection box, and VOILA you are ready to rock and roll!

Now that I’ve shared my massive collecting secrets with you (I always buy the specially marked packages of Box Tops for Education brands) tell me how YOU collect the most Box Tops throughout the year? How will you optimize the specially marked boxes of Hefty trash bags out now? Let me know in the comments below!

I love this! My kids always ask me to keep the box tops but I never do! I'm awful. I want to now though and I'm going to make this cute box to keep them in. They are going to be so excited!

Oh my goodness, this is so cute! How fun would it be to have a meeting where parents bring in Hefty's and then make this craft together! Love it!

This is a great way to collect box tops besides the baggies that I keep in the drawers. Thanks for this.
