Guess What?

This happy Lil’ Miss Twizzler has?

A case of the purple mouth syndrome! Care of Gentian Violet. My poor baby has thrush. 🙁 And because she is breastfed, so does mama. A LOT of things are purple round these parts – fortunately, you don’t get a picture of my purple parts. Thank me later.

Thrush is a yeast infection basically. You can get it anywhere that is warm and moist. The folds of anything, your lady parts, and the mouth.

When babies get it in their mouths they look like small white bacterial colonies. It can go to the back of the throat, the lips, gums and tongue. It’s not painful to the babies (usually) but when mom gets it on her breast, it can cause a burning sensation. AND if not treated, it can just get passed back and forth between mom and baby. Joy! And now, there’s your random baby medical fact of the day.
