Eating Healthy at The Taste of Chicago

Taste of Chicago

If you know anything, about anything of food festivals, then the Taste of Chicago which happens as the summer heat swells to massive proportions, should be on your radar. A great stop for foodies everywhere, it’s been known to provide those of us who live here, and those people who travel in JUST to be here, a small taste of the restaurant scene in my fair city. However, did you know that you can also come in and find some of the healthiest foods in chicago with the help of the Humana Healthier Choices Passport?

Humana Healthier Choices

I’m looking forward to using the tickets provided to me by Humana as part of their Healthier Choices Program, to get a taste of all of these great choices, especially since Mr. Houseful and I have a friendly wager of who can improve their overall health this year. Starting with food festivals sounds cool, especially since most of the foods are items that we are familiar with.

For the sixth consecutive year, Humana Healthier Choices provides a listing of healthy appetizers, entrees and desserts available at the Taste! This year boasts the largest listing yet – 35 foods from 20 Chicago restaurants that meet calorie, sodium and saturated fat nutritional criteria, reviewed by a panel of Chicago-area diet and nutrition experts.

To add a bit of fun this year, they are offering the Humana Healthier Choices Passport Guide allows Taste-goers the option to collect stamps by participating in wellness activities or sampling Humana Healthier Choice foods for a chance to win prizes, such as restaurant gift cards. The Humana Healthier Choices Passport Guide is available for free and can be picked up at more than 70 Dominick’s locations and at the Humana Experience at the Taste.

You would be able to collect stamps by participating in the Humana Well Being Tour, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 10-13, located at the Humana Experience on the Taste map (Congress Parkway at Columbus Dr,) which includes some of these stops:

  • Interactive XBox Kinect station where guests can play the “Your Shape” game
  • Four biometric screening stations that provide personalized metrics and health experts to explain the results
  • Hydration station, equipped with a person-powered bicycle, that displays information on the importance of staying hydrated and provides a cup of water as a reward for pedaling
  • Photo booth
  • Well-being wall to write messages of inspiration to others
  • Free pedometers to count Taste-goers’steps.

As some added inspiration, I can start one lucky reader from Houseful of Nicholes 2 strips of tickets to the Taste of Chicago (happening today through Sunday, July 14, 2013). All you have to do is tell me what your favorite street food is to eat, and if it’s on the Humana’s Healthy Options list! You must pick them up by 3pm tomorrow evening!
