After Childbirth, I Need A Little Poise

After Childbirth, I Need A Little Poise

Poise There are a lot of things that you lose once you become a mother. Well, most of us anyway. One of them is the embarrassment that comes when talking about bodily functions, and how children alter your body. It’s like a battle wound – with less scarring, and stories while children crawl around your feet. I’m realizing that the older that I get, the more that I find out just how much my children changed my body. One of those ways that it’s changed is through the onset of Light Bladder Leakage – and the change from sanitary napkins to Poise Microliners.  2014-06-20 19.27.10 If you’ve been around, you know that I’ve been working on building my home, and well, there are no places to run to discreetly in case I start laughing at the antics of the volunteers on the site, or have a sneezing fit because of the INSANE amount of pollen floating around in Chicago lately. It’s ridiculous. Unfortunately, with the birth of the twins, my bladder seems to have given up the ghost, and I have a little bit of trouble with Light Bladder Leakage. Surprisingly, I’m not as embarrassed as I thought I would be, and what my 14 year old self would have thought. Now, when I first noticed Poise, I’m pretty sure that I was a newly “flowered” woman. Gotta throw in those Game of Thrones references to keep the discomfort away for you shy ones. Poise pads reminded me of getting old, and often made me think of adult diapers. Glad that isn’t what I had the pleasure of opening up when I received my Sample & Share pack from Crowdtap. With constant hammering, and kickbacks from saws, and drills, I need all of the help that I can get. I mean, I can stay cute and all, but if I’m taking frequent visits to the on site Port-O-Potty for leakage checks, I won’t get anything done on our home. By the way, here I am using a skillsaw to cut out cripples in wall frames. I’m a beast.  2014-06-19 10.23.07 What I found were four super this microliners that were created to deal with bladder leakage and not the other type of flow that a woman may have. It’s necessary to differentiate between the two because the Poise liners are SUPER thin. I’m sure with women who are still experiencing a menstrual cycle, this can be a bit alarming to them. Since I don’t use sanitary napkins anymore (I’m a Diva Cup and Instead girl) I don’t really worry one way or the other. It’s nice to know that I have the protection that I need without having to tell the world that I need to be protected.  The things that I love about Poise are the fact that they stay 3x drier than menstrual liners which helps to neutralize odors better, and the fact that they come in nine different sizes to accomodate any level of need.  2014-06-20 19.26.14 If you’re wondering if I’m doing anything to stave off the Light Bladder Leakage, the answer is yes. I do kegels, and I’m working with my OB/GYN to see if it may be a more serious issue than just weakened bladder walls, but until we figure that out, I’ll use my Poise, and be a happy (dry) camper.  To keep your Light Bladder Leakage under control you can do several things:

Seek the Source

Leaks are the very common result of pressure on the bladder and can happen when you laugh, cough, sneeze, or exercise.

Find A Fluid Balance

Drinking water and staying hydrated are important for overall health. However, drinks with caffeine, alcohol and natural fruit acids can cause more frequent bathroom visits.

Work It Out

Kegel exercises strengthen pelvic floor muscles to fight bladder weakness.
