An Easier Way to Travel Big Cities: Curb App

Curb Taxi App - Available In Many Major Cities

I don’t often travel in taxis, because it’s nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get one from my neighborhood to go where I need to. Usually, that’s from my area to downtown Chicago and back, and no, I’m not showing any leg – I’m not sure that would work in Chicago anyway. We’re a pretty stoic town. Anyway, when it comes to wanting to be able to order a cab for anytime that I need, I use my Curb app, which I received in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Curb. I received a promotional code to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.”

Curb Taxi App

In general, hailing a cab in the downtown Chicago area is relatively easy – until you factor in things like rush hour (which I don’t understand because no one is moving, but I digress) and location. With the Curb App, I can arrange for pick-up immediately, or in the future, and can choose which Taxi company I would like to work with on each occasion. For my area, only one company takes future arrangements – which I am known to do since I travel so much for work events and the like, but when I’m just going to meet a friend, I can make new appointments, and have a taxi at my door within minutes.

The app is easy to use, and even lets you know that your taxi is on its way, and will call you to let you know that they are outside to pick you up so that you aren’t tied down to waiting outside during inclement weather, or watching out of your window like a nosy neighbor.

When I took my first trip with Curb, I was heading downtown from my home for a business meeting, and just didn’t feel like leaving out earlier than usual to find a parking spot and worry about whether or not my time was going to run out at a meter. Finding a parking spot and having to walk half a mile to my meeting location was out of the question as well. Downloading the app was easy enough. I just went to my Google Play store, searched Curb (formerly Taxi Magic) and installed it. Easy as pie. I arranged for a pickup at 9:15 am on my meeting day, and like clockwork, my taxi showed up (15 minutes early – which I guess is great) and my phone rang to let me know that he was outside. I did find it interesting that they ask whether or not you want the taxi to wait, and if you press yes they give you one additional minute to haul it outside. To my relief when I did walk out, the taxi pulled up about 45 seconds later. We did get confused for a moment when I arrived at my destination, so I’m going to share my experience so you don’t make the same mistake that I do. When you attach a credit card to your account, and select the choose to pay with CC in the app, you STILL HAVE TO SWIPE YOUR CARD. It won’t charge you twice, and you’ll be okay. Promise. The ride was pleasant, and the estimated fare was on point, so I wasn’t met with any surprises when it came time to pay. Overall, I’m pretty confident that I will be using this app on days where I’m just too tired to drive myself to some downtown function, or when Mr. Houseful and I want to travel without having to worry about paying ridiculous amounts for street parking, or moving our vehicle. It’s safe, and if you are known to indulge in some adult sippy drinks while you’re out and about, it’s safe because you can set pick-up times and locations before you have your fun. You can also pick the tip amount that you want to leave as long as the meter has not been stopped. If you let the driver stop it, then your account will automatically be charged 20%. If you’re okay with that, then you are all set!
