Alphabet Recognition

We’ve come to the point in time where the ladybug is actually showing much more interest in the alphabet. Instead of just singing the familiar tune, she is paying quite a bit of attention to letters and throwing out what she thinks they might be.

So, I figured it was finally time to open this:

Even though she’s not four yet, she easily recognizes the pictures and we’re learning the sounds of the letters. However, we did hit one glitch today. The letter ‘A’ has several cards, with several different pictures on them. An apron, alligator, airplane, acorn and ape. She’s not buying that the ape should be with ‘A.’ Why?

Because it’s a MONKEY – according to her. And if you have a toddler in your house, you will understand that once they have wrapped their little minds around something, there is no turning back for quite some time.

So, Scholastic – please do me a favor and stop making flashcards with pictures on them that a toddler can adamantly call something else. Thanks.

Other than that, we’re doing well on the Alphabet scope.

Ha ha ha! Only other parents can truly relate to this. One set of cards we have lists a soccer ball under "S". **eye roll** Really??? Come on! At age 3, all balls are the same and they should be under "B".

Tricia,

The companies should know better right? If it has two names, don't put it on a flashcard! Thanks for the compliment. I love my Houseful!

It's already commenced. And if I could have gotten that conversation recorded, I'm sure that you all would be cracking up. I had to stop myself from giggling so she wouldn't think that I was laughing at her. Maybe I should record it today.
