Alex, Inc. Premieres Today – A New Comedy About Podcasting #ABCTVEvent

My house is a house of podcasts. It’s the fault of my husband. His search for podcasts began when he realized that his trek to work would be 45 minutes each way. Fun fact: he listens to podcasts at twice the speed and hearing them makes my stomach flip-flop. When I told him that we were interviewing the cast of Alex, Inc. he told me the ENTIRE backstory and why he would be interested in seeing how the series was handled.

It was great to see how Zach Braff and Tiya Sicar interacted with each other, and talked about their costars, including their on-screen children and Tiya’s on-screen mom. Knowing that they often consulted her real life mother for information about cultural practices to make sure they were presenting them properly was nice to know as well.

I will say that I’ve found some of the BEST podcasts because of my husband, and I pretty much trust his judgement.

The series does offer a great look at the often tiring journey of finding what you are passionate about AND something that will support your family. It’s definitely a thin line. And with Alex and his wife,  juggling family dynamics and children trying to figure out their place in the world, the series will be a great look inside of families with diverse cultural backgrounds, and social norms.

Based on Alex Blumberg’s successful podcast “StartUp,” comedy series Alex, Inc. is all about the things that happen – the good, the bad and the ugly – when a journalist and family man quits his job to start his own company. He quickly discovers it’s going to be a lot harder than he thought.

Alex Schuman (Zach Braff) is a successful radio producer with a whip-smart, public defender wife, Rooni (Tiya Sircar) and two confident, quirky children, Ben (Elisha Henig) and Soraya (Audyssie James). After years of making the kind of content that brings no creative fulfillment, in what most would consider an early mid-life crisis, Alex decides to risk everything – including his savings – to start his own business. Armed only with the help of his overenthusiastic producer, Deirdre (Hillary Anne Matthews), and his fast-talking, unemployed second cousin, Eddie (Michael Imperioli), Alex navigates the crazy world of start-ups while trying to keep his marriage and family a priority.

Matt Tarses is executive producer and writer. In addition to his role in front of the camera, Zach Braff is executive producer and director. John Davis and John Fox are executive producers from Davis Entertainment, as are Alex Blumberg, Chris Gilberti and Matt Lieber (Gimlet Media) in association with Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios.
